Logging in and Adding a Portfolio

Once you have signed up to use SwingTrackr, the first step to begin using the application is to log on to the Swingtrackr web application. At the login screen, supply the email and password you used when signing up for Swingtrackr. If you cannot remember your password, you can request a password reset link to the email you used at account creation.

Creating a Portfolio

To interact with all of the features within Swingtrackr, you must create at least one portfolio. When you log into SwingTrackr for the first, you will be on the Portfolio page, and you can create your first portfolio by clicking on the Add a portfolio button in the middle of the page or by clicking the same button in the top right hand of the navigation bar at the top of the page. Clicking either of these buttons will cause a modal to appear on the screen. From this modal, you can choose one of two actions to set up a portfolio inside SwingTrackr:

  1. Inside the modal, click the Portfolio Import Tool to configure a portfolio that already exists. This is a good choice if you have already engaged in swing trading before and have several positions tracked within your brokerage software.
  2. At the bottom right-hand corner of the modal, click the Next button to begin settings up a brand new portfolio. This is a good choice if you do not already have several positions being tracked in your brokerage software or plan to start a new portfolio you would like to track within SwingTrackr.

1. Portfolio Import Tool

Portfolio Import Tool

The portfolio import tool will allow you to import your current orders for positions you already have in your broker software. After clicking on the Portfolio Import Tool button, you will be brought to a new page to import your previously existing portfolio. Below covers the different sections found on this page:

PORTFOLIO

Portfolio Section

The Portfolio section is where you will provide the name of your portfolio, the Cash on Hand, as well as the Broker associated with the account.

  • The Name field is the name you would like to associate with your portfolio. This is the name that will be given to this particular portfolio throughout the SwingTrackr software. This field is the only required field to fill out in this section.
  • The Cash on Hand field is the number of available funds within your brokerage account currently not tied up in any positions. For example, if you have an account of $30,000, and $10,000 is currently invested into positions, then the remaining \$20,000 would be your cash on hand. This field is not required; however, it is highly recommended that you provide a value so that SwingTrackr’s analytics tools can provide a better overview of your trading strategy performance.
  • The **Broker **field is the broker you would like to associate with this account. This field is optional.

ACTIVE SWINGS

Active Swings Section

The Active Swings section is where you will input the information related to your pre-existing swing trades. The first subsection under Active Swings is Swing #1, where you can enter the information for the first swing trade you would like to import. Below covers all of the fields in this subsection:

  • Ticker Symbol: The ticker symbol of the financial instrument related to your swing trade. For example, Apple Inc’s ticker symbol is APPL. This is a required field.
  • **Goal: **The goal is the percentage increase in the price of the stock for the swing trade being defined. For example, You could enter a swing trade by buying Apple stock, hoping to sell at a price increase of 10%.
  • **Scale: **Scale is the number of orders you plan to scale into the swing. For example, if you want to scale into Apple with 5 orders, you would set the Scale to be 5.

The Orders Table

Active Swings Section

The Orders Table is where you will enter the actual buying and selling data associated with your swing trade. Below covers all the fields in the Table:

  • Date: This is the date a buy or sell order took place. Click on the field in the row will cause a calendar modal to appear, simplifying date selection.
  • Order: The current order number. This number will increase as more orders are added to the table with the Add an Order button.
  • Trade Type: What type of trade the order is: a Swing, Day Trade, or Scalp <>.
  • Order Type: The type of order. It can be a Buy or a Sell order.
  • Size: The number of shares bought in the order.
  • Entry Price: The price at which you bought shares in the swing trade. This field is only active if the Order Type is set to Buy.
  • Close Price: The price at which you closed sold shares in the swing trade. This field is only active if the Order Type is set to Sell.

You can remove an order from the table by clicking the trash can icon on the table’s far-right.

You can add more Orders to the table by clicking the Add an Order button on the table’s bottom right corner.

If you would like to record another swing trade in your portfolio using another financial instrument, you can click the Add a Swing button. This button will add a new subsection (e.g., Swing #2), which will have its own Ticker Symbol, Goal, and Scale fields, as well as its own Order Book.

Once you are satisfied with the swings trades you have defined, click the Import Portfolio button. This will save your portfolio info SwingTrackr and redirect you to the Portfolio page with the recently defined portfolio active.

2. Creating a New, Empty Portfolio

Add Portfolio Dropdown

If you want to create a new portfolio that does not exist previously, You can do so from the top navigation bar. In the top right of the navigation bar, you will see an “Add a portfolio” button (if you have not defined any portfolios on your account already), or you will see the name of your currently active portfolio. Click the “Add a portfolio” button in the navigation if you have not added any portfolios to your profile yet.

Clicking the name of your currently active portfolio will display a dropdown menu containing all the portfolios you have created on your account. At the bottom of this dropdown will be an Add a new Portfolio button. Click this to add a new portfolio to your account.

Whether you followed either of the above steps, a modal window will appear on the screen. Click the Next button in the bottom right-hand corner of the modal. Here you can define the portfolio name, cash on hand, and the broker associated with the portfolio. Once complete, press the _Add Portfolio _button to complete the process. Now you will have a new, blank portfolio!

Adding a Position

If the active portfolio is recently created and currently empty, the Positions page will display a “Add your first Position” button. Clicking this button will open a modal that will guide you through the process of adding a Position trade to the portfolio.

Generak Tab

On the General tab of the modal, there are three fields related to the swing trade you want to add:

  • Ticker Symbol: The ticker symbol of the financial instrument related to your swing trade. For example, Apple Inc’s ticker symbol is APPL. This is a required field.
  • Goal: The goal is the percentage increase in the price of the stock for the swing trade being defined. For example, You could enter a swing trade by buying Apple stock, hoping to sell at a price increase of 10%.
  • Scale: Scale is the number of orders you plan to scale into the position. For example, if you want to scale into Apple with 5 orders, you would set the Scale to be 5.

Once these fields are filled out, click the Add position to add the position to your portfolio. After adding the position, you will be presented with the option to finish adding positions to the portfolio or to add another swing trade to the portfolio.

At this point, your positions page will be populated with information related to the swing trades you just added to the portfolio.

If at any point you want to add a new position to the portfolio, click on the ticker dropdown at the top of the positions page and choose the “Add a new ticker” option from the dropdown.
